The gang tries to help Marshall get over Lily. Barney takes him to a strip club, and Ted takes him to a Yankee’s game. Marshall finds a credit card trail that leads to Lily’s hotel in the city, but the guys try to keep him from going to see her.

Barney teaches Marshall how to pick up women. When things start to go sour for an awkward Marshall, Barney steps in and wins the women over... for himself. Meanwhile, Lily is back from her art experience. While helping her look for a new apartment, Robin gets sick of hearing about Lily’s amazing summer in San Francisco.

When Barney tries to prove to Ted that his job as an architect is anything but boring by showing him that it is a great way to pick up women, a jealous Robin tracks down her man after hearing of his antics. After a fight in which Robin insinuates that Ted’s job is boring, Barney sets out to convince his buddy otherwise. As the guys test out the pick-up line, Ted Mosby, Architect on the ladies, they realize it really works. But when Robin hears that Ted is parading around town picking up girls, she is hot on his heels to discover the truth.

Lily moves into Barney’s apartment and the trials, troubles, and tribulations may be a bit too much for poor Barney to handle.

Barney takes it on himself to please Marshall’s disgruntled law professor, while Lily gets a job at Ted’s architect company and tries to teach Ted’s boss a big lesson.

Marshall starts dating a woman and they really hit it off, but Barney and Ted tell him he has to dump her because she has crazy eyes.

Marshall and Lily, together again, decide to elope in Atlantic City, and they gather Barney, Ted and Robin to take part in the wedding.

Barney uncovers Robin’s secret past and the real reason behind her strong aversion to malls.

Barney’s black, gay brother, James, visits and Robin, the only one in the group who’s never met him, is surprised. But James has a surprise for Barney that he finds hard to accept.

Ted almost ruins Christmas for everyone when, still carrying around anger toward Lily, he calls her a horribly disgusting name.

Robin wants to tell Ted she loves him, but she can't make the leap. Meanwhile, her sister visits and brings her boyfriend, and Robin doesn't react well when her sister says she's ready to lose her virginity.

When Ted is constantly insulted by his former boss, who is now working for him on a project, he is told to fire the man, but he finds that a hard thing to do. Meanwhile, Barney offers Lily a lot of money to paint a nude portrait of him.

Marshall visits Lily’s kindergarten class for show and tell, and a little boy blackmails Doug with the score of the football game. Robins on the air.

When Ted picks up a lucky penny, a maelstrom of bad luck ensues, but picking up the penny may be the best thing that Ted has ever done. After a complex string of unfortunate events impact Ted and the gang-from Marshall’s injured toe keeping him out of the marathon, to Barney running in his place and the resulting aftermath-Ted concludes that the stray coin changed more than just his luck and that it was his destiny to pick up that penny.

After taking heat from Robin for holding on to all of his stuff from ex-girlfriends, Ted gives in and parts ways with all of the items -- only to discover something that puts Robin in the dog house. After Ted puts up a fight, he finally concedes and gets rid of the stuff. When he learns that Robin is also holding on to some things from her ex-boyfriends, she must decide what to do. Meanwhile, after Barney is forced to attend Lily's play, he puts on one of his own and forces Lily and the gang to attend.

When Marshall's beloved 1988 Fiero gives out just shy of 200,000 miles, the gang recalls all of their great memories in the car, and Marshall must decide if his baby is worth getting fixed or if she is at the end of the road.

As Ted and Robin reach a new milestone in their relationship, Barney does everything in his power to hijack their happiness. When moving day arrives for Ted, the rental truck containing all of his belongings mysteriously disappears. As a result, Ted is forced to spend what is supposed to be his first night living with Robin, with Barney who tries to convince Ted of all of the reasons he should not make this a permanent move.

After Barney ruins Marshall’s bachelor party plans, Lily reveals a shocking secret about Barney that causes Marshall to rethink who his best man should be.

Barney is ecstatic about his appearance on the The Price Is Right because he has wanted to meet Bob Barker his entire life.

By the time their wedding day arrives, nothing seems to be the way Marshall and Lily had envisioned, but surprisingly Barney jumps in to try to save their special day.

When Barney overhears that Ted and Robin have a secret at the wedding reception, he begins to speculate about what it might be, but what they are hiding even stuns the unflappable Barney.
